This Privacy Policy explains how Four Seas Labs (“we”) collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use MoatScope (the “Service”). We try to keep it readable. If anything is unclear, email us at admin@fourseaslabs.com.
1. Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (stored hashed, never in plaintext). If you sign in with a third-party provider, we collect the basic profile information that provider shares with us.
Subscription and payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. MoatScope never sees or stores your credit card details. We receive from Stripe a customer identifier, subscription status, and the last four digits / brand of your card for display purposes only.
Usage information. We collect standard web analytics data (pages visited, device type, approximate location derived from IP address, referrer) through Google Analytics 4. This helps us understand which features are useful and where we're losing users.
Content you create. If you create baskets, watchlists, notes, or other content inside MoatScope, we store that content so we can show it back to you.
Communications. If you email us or subscribe to our newsletter, we retain those messages and your subscription status.
2. How we use information
- To provide and improve the Service;
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure;
- To process subscriptions and send billing receipts;
- To send product updates, newsletters, and support responses;
- To detect and prevent fraud or abuse;
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to train machine learning models for third parties.
3. How we share information
We share information with a small number of service providers who help us operate:
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider;
- Vercel — our hosting and deployment platform;
- Stripe — payments;
- Anthropic — the language-model provider powering our moat analysis (we send prompts about publicly traded companies, not your personal data);
- Google Analytics — usage analytics;
- Newsletter provider — if you subscribe to our newsletter, your email is also stored by our newsletter provider (currently evaluating Beehiiv, ConvertKit, and Resend).
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety or rights of MoatScope, our users, or the public. We will notify you of such requests unless prohibited from doing so.
If Four Seas Labs is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you in advance.
4. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and measure usage. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, but some parts of the Service may not work correctly without them.
5. Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your profile, baskets, and saved content within 30 days. We retain billing records and legal/compliance records for as long as required by applicable law (typically seven years for financial records).
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Delete your account and associated data;
- Export your data in a portable format;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent where we rely on consent to process data.
To exercise any of these rights, email admin@fourseaslabs.com. We will respond within 30 days. You can also unsubscribe from marketing emails directly via the link at the bottom of every email.
7. International transfers
MoatScope is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, which may have different data protection laws than your country. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.
8. Children
MoatScope is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, email us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard security practices including TLS encryption in transit, row-level security in our database, and access controls on administrative systems. No system is 100% secure; if we detect a material breach that affects you, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced by email or in-app notice. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
