Not investment advice
MoatScope is a research and information platform. It is not a broker-dealer, investment advisor, or financial planner, and nothing on the Service is investment, financial, legal, tax, or accounting advice.
Moat ratings, quality scores, fair value estimates, written reasoning, blog articles, and any other content on MoatScope are provided for informational and educational purposes only. They are opinions based on a methodology we have designed, not recommendations to buy, sell, hold, or transact in any security. We are not recommending any particular investment strategy, portfolio allocation, or course of action.
You are responsible for your own decisions
Every investment decision is yours. Before investing, you should do your own research, read official company filings, consider your personal financial situation and goals, and where appropriate consult a licensed financial advisor, tax professional, or attorney.
Past performance does not indicate future results. Stocks can and do lose value — sometimes all of it. Quality and valuation metrics are useful inputs but do not guarantee any particular outcome.
Our methodology has limits
Our moat ratings, quality scores, and fair value estimates are based on a specific framework we've built. That framework reflects our judgment about what matters, how to weight different factors, and what multipliers to apply. Other investors and professional analysts would reach different conclusions using different methods. Our framework can be wrong, and it can be wrong about specific companies.
Fair value estimates in particular depend on assumptions about future earnings, capital allocation, and prevailing market multiples. Those assumptions can and do change. Treat fair value as a rough anchor for thinking, not a price target.
Data accuracy
MoatScope uses data from third-party providers including SEC EDGAR (public filings), Tiingo (prices), and Finnhub (company profiles). We also compute derived metrics ourselves. We make reasonable efforts to ensure data is accurate and up-to-date, but:
- Data feeds can have errors, omissions, or delays;
- Corporate actions (splits, spinoffs, mergers) are not always immediately reflected;
- Some metrics are self-reported by companies and may be restated, revised, or reclassified;
- Industry-specific financials (banks, insurers, REITs, utilities) use different accounting conventions that may affect comparability.
Always verify anything material against the original SEC filing or company disclosure before acting on it.
Machine-generated content
Some analysis on MoatScope — including moat source identification and supporting reasoning — is produced by automated language models rather than human analysts. These models can make mistakes, miss context, or present incorrect information confidently. Treat the reasoning we publish as a starting point for your own research, not as authoritative analysis.
No guarantee of availability
We strive for high uptime but do not guarantee that the Service will be available continuously or without errors. Delays, outages, and data lag can occur, and we are not liable for losses arising from such issues.
Forward-looking statements
Any statements on MoatScope about expected future performance, growth, margins, or valuations are forward-looking by nature. Actual results can differ materially. Markets are unpredictable.
No endorsement
A company appearing on MoatScope — including being rated Wide Moat or scoring highly on our quality framework — does not mean we endorse the company, its management, its products, or its stock as an investment. It means the company scored a certain way on our specific framework at a specific point in time.
Jurisdictional note
MoatScope focuses on US-listed public companies. The Service may not be appropriate for, or available in, all jurisdictions. You are responsible for complying with the laws of your own jurisdiction.
Affiliate and material relationships
We may occasionally link to external resources, brokers, or tools. Unless explicitly labeled as a sponsored or affiliate link, we do not receive compensation for linking. If we introduce affiliate relationships in the future, they will be clearly disclosed.
